This February New English American Theater (Neat) will present Eve Ensler’s THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES at various venues throughout Stuttgart. The purpose of these so called V-Day events is to raise awareness about violence against women and girls as well as raise money for local beneficiaries that are working to end violence.
The Vagina Monologues introduces a wildly divergent gathering of female voices, including a six-year-old girl, an elderly New Yorker, a vagina workshop participant, a woman who witnesses the birth of her granddaughter, a Bosnian survivor of rape, and a feminist happy to have found a man who “liked to look at it”.
Neat will perform the award-winning-play three times this year. All proceeds will go to local organizations (see below) working to help women and end violence against women and girls. V-Day is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls that raises funds and awareness through benefit productions of playwright and founder Eve Ensler’s award winning play “The Vagina Monologues” and other artistic works. The “V” in V-Day stands for Victory, Valentine and Vagina.
Frauenberatung Fetz (Fetz Women’s Counseling and Therapy Center) provides counseling and therapy “for women, from women.” They strive to support women of all circumstances, and have an emphasis on victims of sexual assault and rape. Frauen helfen Frauen (Women helping Women) provides both counseling and a shelter for women and children escaping violent or abusive situations.
