New English American Theatre (Neat) has been doing shows for over 28 years. The theatrical society presents theatergoers with uncompromised presentations of Anglophone theatre and culture. “Stuttgart audiences should have the opportunity to see musical theatre, children’s theatre, staged monologues, one-act plays, music and poetry projects in their original form”, says director and creative mind Charles C. Urban. Neat is a traveling theatre club, which means you can see the artists on various stages such as Kulturwerk (Stuttgart Ost), Merlin Kulturcafé (Stuttgart West), Theater am Olgaeck (Stuttgart Mitte) and Dreigroschentheater (Stuttgart Süd).
Past Neat productions include IN THE NATIVE STATE, THE FANTASTICKS, THE EVENT, CAGES, WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?, THE GOAT, EDUCATING RITA, THE GLASS MENAGERIE, A KIND OF ALASKA, WAITING FOR GODOT, MISERY, THE ACTOR’S NIGHTMARE or THE PAVILLON.
Since 2003 Neat has been invited eight times to take part in the international Festival of European Anglophone Theatrical Societies (Feats). This theatrical competition takes place in a different European city every year. So far the club has won eight awards for various plays including a Best Actress Award for Mark Twain’s THE DIARIES OF ADAM AND EVE (won by Felice Becker in 2015) or a Best Actor Award for John Clancy’s THE EVENT (won by Andrew Carey-Yard in 2013).
An established part of the Neat seasons is the DARK MONDAY SERIES. These show cases are a themed mixture of prose, poetry, music and songs, as well as staged readings and radio plays. Each evening is totally unique! Every first Monday of the month at Merlin Kulturcafé.
