About NEAT

New English American Theatre e.V (NEAT) is a non-profit organisation that has been doing shows for over 35 years. The theatrical society presents theater goers with uncompromised presentations of Anglophone theatre and culture. “Stuttgart audiences should have the opportunity to see musical theatre, children’s theatre, staged monologues, one-act plays, music and poetry projects in their original form”, says founder, director and creative mind Charles C. Urban. NEAT is a traveling theatre club, which means you can see the artists on various stages such as Kulturwerk (Stuttgart Ost), Merlin Kulturcafé (Stuttgart West), Theater am Olgaeck (Stuttgart Mitte) and Dreigroschentheater (Stuttgart Süd).

At the 2025 FEATS in Hamburg, NEAT received the Best Original Script Award for our staging of Bob Lind’s BROKEN STRINGS directed by Charles C. Urban

An established part of the NEAT seasons is the DARK MONDAY SERIES. These show cases are a themed mixture of classic literature, modern prose, poetry, music and songs, as well as staged readings and radio plays. Each evening is totally unique! For more than 12 years we have presented a premiere performance on every first Monday of the month at Merlin Kulturcafé. After nearly 150 (!) different shows, the monthly series has been reduced to four shows a year due to the city of Stuttgart’s radical cut in cultural funding. Perhaps, we will see a resurgence in the monthly series sometime in the hopefully near future!
