LIFE IS A POKER GAME: Raise, Call or Fold

NEW TEXTS by THE WRITERS IN STUTTGART

Poker, just like life, requires both luck and skill. We take the cards we are dealt, study them and the people across from us, and put on our best face in hopes of winning. Sometimes we “raise” and bet big, other times we may “call” for everyone’s cards to be revealed, or we may simply “fold” or withdraw from the game. What will this year’s game of life bring? Come join us to consider a range of possibilities.

Since 2015, NEAT has hosted an annual performance by the Writers in Stuttgart; an international group of authors, poets, and playwrights from different cultural backgrounds who live in the region and write in English.  They will present their latest vignettes, free verse poems, and other texts and will be accompanied by Pianist Florian Eisentraut.

It has become a long standing NEAT tradition to present English language Poets, Playwrights, and Authors who reside and work in Stuttgart as part of the DARK MONDAY @ MERLIN series. Beginning in 2013, we have hosted evenings with the Award Winning Poet Stephen Thomas, the Published Author and Poet Daniel Regelbrugge, the up and coming, highly popular Poet and Songwriter Archie Macjoyce, and on several occasions presented the newest works of Playwright Michael Hilton in Dramatic World Premiere Readings. In 2022, we performed a dramatic reading of SONS & DAUGHTERS, the newly published book by poet Sera Babakus, with five NEAT actors and renowned classical marimba soloist Qi Fan.

For the authors, this is a welcome opportunity to try out new material and present works in progress.

For the audience, this is a good chance to meet up and coming, contemporary authors and hearing new works of prose and poetry.

The Writers in Stuttgart meet monthly to share and critique each other’s work. For more information about WiS check out their website – www.writersinstuttgart.com.
