A CHILD’S CHRISTMAS IN WALES by Dylan Thomas

“I can never remember whether it snowed for six days and six nights when I was twelve, or whether it snowed for twelve days and twelve nights when I was six.”

A CHILD’S CHRISTMAS IN WALES is one of Dylan Thomas’s most popular works. It was originally a piece that he wrote for radio, recorded by Thomas himself in 1952. The story is an anecdotal retelling of a Christmas from the view of a young child and a romanticized version of Christmases past, portraying a nostalgic and simpler time.

Dylan Thomas’ recording of this story is credited with, single handedly, launching the Audio Book industry in the USA; where he was enormously popular. The Welsh poet and writer enjoyed performing his text himself and his public readings won him great acclaim; his sonorous voice with a subtle Welsh lilt became nearly as famous as his works.

This is the 70th Anniversary of Dylan Thomas’ death and we therefore dedicate the entire evening to the Welsh Poet Laureate; featuring excerpts from UNDER MILKWOOD and several poems, as well as Traditional Welsh Music.

Our reading features the Welsh Actor and Singer Derrick Jenkins accompanied by Pianist Florian Eisentraut
