The ONE PAGE PLAY FESTIVAL is a collaboration between the WiS – WRITERS IN STUTTGART and NEAT – NEW ENGLISH AMERICAN THEATRE<\/p>\n

Director and Initiator, David Burmedi, Explains the Concept –<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cProducing the One Page Play Festival has been a journey.\u00a0 It began about a year ago, at a writer\u2019s workshop in Rheinland Pfalz.\u00a0 The intent was to write, rehearse and produce plays in one weekend.\u00a0 Gotta be a joke, right?\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em>Not at all.\u00a0 Creating a piece of theater in no time can be a liberating experience.\u00a0 When you think about it, a one-page play is the ultimate low investment, high pay off creative strategy.\u00a0 Easy to get off the ground.\u00a0 Gives the writer license to try anything.\u00a0 Affords an unbeatable variety of styles and genres.\u00a0 Seriously, what\u2019s not to love?\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em>Then an even better idea came along.\u00a0 What if we leveraged writers who actually have experience writing plays and other performance pieces?\u00a0 What if we gave them a couple of months to conceive and draft their plays?\u00a0 And what if we held real auditions to find character actors with the versatility you need to pull something like this off?<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em>A small series of miracles was set in motion.\u00a0 And all of our hopes and dreams came true.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em>Yes, they can be written.\u00a0 In fact, we collected 58 submissions to the festival.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em>Yes, they are good.\u00a0 The jury was floored by the talent.\u00a0 Some of the material was heart-stopping.\u00a0 Some of it made you fall over laughing.\u00a0 It was incredibly hard to pick just 12 winners.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em>And yes, they can be produced.\u00a0 We did find actors that can switch from low comedy to high drama.\u00a0 And through creative means, the festival organizers were able to drum up funds to purchase set pieces, properties and costumes.\u00a0 Because these plays are important and deserve a few bucks to tell the story right.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em>The only frontier left to explore is what you \u2013 the audience member \u2013 think of all of this.\u00a0 Attached to this program is your ballot.\u00a0 Take a second to fill it out and drop it off at the bar.\u00a0 This is your chance to join our Academy and hand an Oscar to the writer \/ actor of your choice.\u00a0 Don\u2019t miss it\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n
